The Torquay Club is divided into various committees and each committee has a convenor.\u00a0\u00a0 Each convenor calls her own meetings, when and where necessary.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sub-committee reports are given at business meetings so that all members of the club are kept informed of what is taking place.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Many members attend South West Regional meetings and report back to the membership and each year the President and usually a couple of other members attend the National Conference.<\/p>\n
Apart from the serious side of soroptimism we enjoy\u00a0varied social activities including taking part in the Torbay Carnival and participating in various local events.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We give active support to the local Disabled Fellowship and endeavour to give time to elderly and disabled local people by arranging transport to take them out for a sight seeing trip and entertaining them to afternoon tea.<\/p>\n
A group of members help at a local school doing one to one reading with 5 year olds.\u00a0\u00a0 During the Summer term, at the same school, \u00a0the Torquay Club have funded children to take part in the BeePlus project.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This project is to try to educate how important the bee population is to the human race and therefore learn what to do to protect the bees which are at the moment under threat from a mite in the hives.<\/p>\n
2011 is a very exciting year for the members of the club because we celebrate the 70 years since the club was formed.\u00a0\u00a0 Celebrations will take place in June with a friendship weekend when it is hoped to organise a number of fun events such as a round robin trip to include a steam train and river boat cruise.\u00a0\u00a0 We will also be holding a celebratory luncheon at the Redcliffe Hotel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
