Soroptimist International of Chaguanas is a group of dynamic women who enjoy the camaraderie and networking opportunities that result from working together on projects that benefit the community.
Our mission is to transform the lives of women and girls through education, empowerment and enabling opportunities.
We are members of the wider Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland club and have consultative status at the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at the United Nations thus we follow many of the United Nations significant dates including International Women’s Day, World Environment Day, Elimination Of Violence Against Women’s Day and International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
In commemoration of International Women’s Day 2021, all six Soroptimist International Clubs of Trinidad and Tobago united to produce a series of videos featuring prominent local women who choose to challenge gender bias and inequality.
These women hail from different backgrounds and each shared their journey and determination to forge a gender-equal world.

To date our projects include cancer screenings in rural communities across the country biannually, conduct health fairs, host workshops and environmental education.
We also support many other organizations in their projects by practical and/or financial support, and through advocacy.
In 2014, the club was nominated and became first runner up in the Energy Chambers Award for Best Environmental Project. We were also awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for the project by the United Nations Environmental Program.
The club’s main source of funding is their annual lunch/tea party held in the May/June of each year.
