[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Soroptimist International Couva was chartered on January 22, 2022, during one of the most challenging times facing the global community – the Covid-19 pandemic. As a club we have had to do things “differently” and this has had a profound effect on the ethos of our club. We see ourselves as charting a new course that requires a change in mindset for the changing times. We hope to make a positive impact in our community through transformative projects as we emerge from a post-Covid-19 world. Our focus is therefore to bring hope and teach resilience to the girls and young women in our community.<\/strong><\/p>\n

4. Tech for Girls Workshop (App development) \u2013 in collaboration with RSC (Restore a Sense of I can) another NGO<\/strong><\/p>\n

5. Seafood Boil Fundraiser<\/strong><\/p>\n

6. Breast Cancer Awareness Project \u2013 Providing information and Q&A segments<\/strong><\/p>\n

7. Virtual Christmas Market Project \u2013 supporting and promoting our local female artisans<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Wednesday 7th May 2025 , SI Couva piloted its \u201c End Period Poverty\u201d Project with the Form 1 girls of Holy Faith Convent Couva.<\/p>\n

It entailed a presentation by three (3) guest speakers followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony for the unveiling of 3 newly installed \u201c Pads On Roll\u201d Dispensers for period emergencies.<\/p>\n

Our guest speakers were:-<\/p>\n

Ms. Leela Ramsingh- LSA Healthcare Services Ltd who gave a riveting presentation on menstrual hygiene and product disposal and installed the \u201c Pad on the Roll \u201c dispensers.<\/p>\n

Dr. Nadira Rambocas – CrownherTT- she currently leads the Crown Her Initiative project which aims to lobby for the provision of at least one free menstrual product in order alleviate period poverty.<\/p>\n

Debra Mc Williams- Wilson – Bryden Pi Ltd Medical representative for CeraVe where she combines her passion for skincare with her commitment to wellness and education.<\/p>\n

The girls were gifted with goodie bags from SI Couva and our guest speakers. It was wonderful and engaging session.<\/p>\n

On Friday 24th May 2024 , the Soroptimist International Club of Couva was invited to attend a Menstrual Hygiene Workshop hosted by L.S.A Health Services Limited at Preysal Secondary School to commemorate World Menstrual Hygiene Day on the 28th May 2024.<\/p>\n

This was a global initiative being staged in Trinidad & Tobago in conjunction with German based NGO Wash United.<\/p>\n

The theme for 2024 is \u201c Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n

The event was a platform to raise awareness and education of menstrual hygiene by bringing together a group of young girls to discuss the importance of menstrual hygiene management . It also advocated for greater access to menstrual hygiene products and facilities.<\/p>\n

It was indeed an honor to have our guests speakers Ms. Deirdre Lee Kin, Dr. Kimberly Abraham and Mrs. Venessa Chattergoon inspire and shed light on the journey to entrepreneurship. The young ladies were definitely captivated by their splendid presentations.<\/p>\n

We even discovered a few budding entrepreneurs who found the interactive session truly rewarding. On Friday 18th August, 2023 Soroptimist International Club of Couva President Mrs. Kerryl-Lyn King-Henry and member Ms. Meera Avatar donated 150 packs of sanitary napkins to Ms.Leela Ramsingh , managing director of LSA Health Care Services in aid of their School Drive initiative in September.<\/p>\n

This was also done to kick off our Personal Care Project in the vein of\u00a0EndPeriodPoverty<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0.<\/p>\n

Period Poverty is the inability of low-income women and girls to afford menstrual products and also the lack of access to menstrual hygiene education. It also refers to increased economic vulnerability women and girls face due to financial burden posed by menstrual supplies.<\/p>\n

SI Couva will advocate to\u00a0EndPeriodPoverty<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

SCHOOL A BAG PROJECT<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

SI Couva will be assisting the underprivileged youths within the Couva environs with school stationery for 100 school bags. They will also be assisting 10 schools and providing 3 scholarships to students in need.<\/p>\n

Donations in cash or stationery were solicited and bins were placed at Mohammed’s Book Store, High Street, San Fernando and Gulf Link Road and JTA Supermarket, Couva.<\/p>\n

SIGBI Day of action – 15th <\/b>July<\/b> 23<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

SI Couva celebrated SIGBI Day of Action which coincided with United Nations World Youth Skills Day.<\/p>\n

The aim of World Youth Skills day is to acknowledge the value of acquiring skills to achieve personal success and realizing their fullest potential.<\/p>\n

SI Couva embarked on an interactive session with a group of 11 year old girls at a summer camp with Conflict Guru 868, Ms Ayanna Miguel where they discussed the topic of Conflict Resolution.<\/p>\n

Ms. Miguel holds both undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications, namely a Masters in International Management and post graduate diploma in Mediation Studies. She is the lead consultant at eMediate Consulting. She is also a trained mediator with U.W.I and certified with the Mediation Board of Trinidad and Tobago.<\/p>\n

The girls were thoroughly engaged as they navigated successfully to resolve challenges, adverse situations and conflicts thereby unlocking their true potential[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”blue” style=”shadow” border_width=”9″][vc_single_image image=”5783″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Our guest speaker was Ms. Leela Ramsingh managing director of LSA Healthcare Services Ltd, Eltina\u2019s Distributors Ltd and RamAli Development Conpany Ltd. She\u2019s an advocate for women and girls as it pertains to feminine hygiene products and her company is the brand ambassador for Menstrual Hygiene Day which is associated with WASH United, a German NGO.<\/p>\n

It was an afternoon filled with riveting discussions, games, delectable cuisine and an art session of creating fascinators.<\/p>\n

A true celebration of sisterhood.<\/p>\n
