Bronwen Davies<\/h2>\n

1st April 1945 – 27th May 2021\"\"<\/a><\/h5>\n

I first knew Miss Davies about 35 years ago when she taught my sons at Fairfield Junior School.\u00a0She frightened the life out of me, but the children loved her.\u00a0 I recall a warm June afternoon, school sports day when \u2018Miss\u2019 was shouting at children to join in various races and organising them. However, she had brought along her two little dogs, Mitzi and Tara, and the children took turns at looking after them, and really enjoyed the afternoon.<\/p>\n

About ten years later I met Bron as a fellow member of Widnes Soroptimist Club.\u00a0 She became a very active member and particularly enjoyed the social functions.\u00a0We regularly held events with a shared table and Bron was renowned for trays of egg sandwiches, but was also a very good cake maker.\u00a0She introduced the Club to trips out to Tatton to listen to the Halle Orchestra for the Firework and Light Show and last night at the Proms and would organise the trips.\u00a0She was President of the Club on two occasions and stepped in on a third occasion when regrettably a close friend Anne Brewer died when she was the current President.<\/p>\n

For a number of years she was the Captain of the Club Bowls Team and although we never managed to win a tournament, we were well known for our hospitality, and again Bron would prepare large trays of egg sandwiches and cake.<\/p>\n

Bron was a friend to many members of the club she arranged film nights at her home, and arranged trips to the cinema and theatre, her great favourite was Andrew Rieu. She took members to hospital appointments and called on a fellow club member, Betty Locket several times a week as she became frailer and kept in touch with Betty\u2019s family.\u00a0 Regrettably we lost Betty earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Bron was well liked and loved by many people and it was my pleasure to have been her friend.<\/p>\n

Betty Lockett<\/h2>\n

October 1929 – January 2021<\/h5>\n

Betty was our longest serving member and an Honorary Member. Betty was born in October 1929 & joined SI Widnes in 1976, giving over 40 years of excellent service to the club. She had been a very active member of our club until sadly, over the past couple of years her health began to deteriorate. However, Betty still loved to know what was happening within the club & looked forward to receiving the minutes of our Business meetings & talking to members. As well as having served as club President, 1981\/82, Betty had served on the club Executive committee & had been club secretary. For many years, every Tuesday afternoon she ran a social event for the elderly ladies of Widnes, which was known simply as ‘The Tuesday Club’. This very enjoyable event included the all important tea & biscuits. Betty will be sadly missed by many people. Maureen Ellerton<\/p>\n

Lilliane Chuffart<\/h2>\n

1st January 1930-8th October 2020<\/h5>\n

Lilliane was born in Tournai Belgium and came to live England in 1948 when her father came to work as a research chemist at Central lab. (ICI Widnes). She initially went to Manchester High School for girls as they lived in Grappenhall, and then sadly Lilliane caught tuberculosis and spent the next 2 years 9 months in hospital; firstly at Wrightington and then at Weaverham Sanatorium. The family then moved to Hunt\u2019s Cross and later to Hough Green. Lilliane trained as a Chiropodist at the Liverpool foot hospital. After her training she was employed at the Dr Scholl shop in Warrington before moving to the NHS covering Warrington and Winwick hospital.<\/p>\n

I first met Lilliane in the mid 80\u2019s and invited her to join the club (at that time you could only become a member if you had your own business or had a senior position in your field of work). Lilliane joined the club. She was a regular member of our club until \u201clockdown\u201d. Lilliane never took up office but was a solid supporter of the club. She helped at the \u201cTuesday Club, the Christmas party and many other fund raising events. When we had events at Barbara Stott\u2019s she would always be busy collecting the empty dishes and washing up! Lilliane joined me on a visit to Jersey to attend the annual dinner of the Jersey Club and also on a trip to the SIGBI conference in Belfast when we included a round trip of Eire to get there! \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Lilliane supported the Hough Green Scouts & Guides by working in their nearly new shop at the Scout hut. She was also a member of Widnes Bridge club. She enjoyed her garden and very proud of her golden daffodils. Sadly in the last few years she has been unable to do very much. She was very happy with her surprise \u201cbirthday party\u201d from the club and I think that is how many of us will remember her.
