{"id":5187,"date":"2022-04-01T14:00:55","date_gmt":"2022-04-01T13:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/winchester-and-district\/?p=5187"},"modified":"2022-04-01T14:00:55","modified_gmt":"2022-04-01T13:00:55","slug":"rembering-sylvia-margaret-stops-1924-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/winchester-and-district\/2022\/04\/01\/rembering-sylvia-margaret-stops-1924-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Rembering Sylvia Margaret Stops 1924-2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>This is how I became a close friend of Sylvia\u2019s.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I first met Sylvia at Sparsholt College in 1988 when we were on a 1 term evening class for chaining chairs.\u00a0\u00a0In 1989 we met again when Sylvia was with a colleague of mine selling raffle tickets for a mini car in aid of Parkinson\u2019s uk.\u00a0\u00a0As a result of these meetings, my colleague asked me to join the local branch of Parkinson\u2019s as I was about to retire.\u00a0\u00a0It was not long before I was involved with Parkinson&#8217;s and, as Sylvia and I got to know each other more, she introduced me to the Winchester branch of Soroptimist International and I became a member in 1991.\u00a0\u00a0In 1996 Sylvia retired as Chairman of Winchester Parkinson\u2019s branch and I was elected to take over from her.\u00a0\u00a0In 2012, after many committee meetings to which Sylvia belonged, and unknown to me, I was awarded the BEM for my work with Parkinson\u2019s and when I was invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace, I invited Sylvia to join me.\u00a0\u00a0We had a wonderful time. I have enjoyed many social events with Sylvia and realise that, without her, perhaps I would never have joined Parkinson\u2019s or become a Soroptimist.\u00a0\u00a0I will miss Sylvia.\u00a0\u00a0She was a real lady, full of charm and understanding.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Myra Clare<\/div>\n<div>Winchester based Soroptimist<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is how I became a close friend of Sylvia\u2019s.
