Home-Start Runnymede and Woking

]

Woking Soroptimists have been raising awareness and funds for Home-Start Runnymede and Woking during 2017-18.

A great start was made at the book sale we organised at St Andrew’s Coffee Shop in Goldsworth Park, Woking in June 2017, which raised £125. Many Soroptimists and friends of Soroptimists took part in the Quiz Night organised by Home-Start RAW in September 2017. In October 2017 we held a very successful Charity Bridge Afternoon.  Organised jointly with SI Weybridge, we raised £713. The proceeds were split between Home-Start Runnymede and Woking (£386.30) and Home-Start Weybridge and Spelthorne (£327.00).  The total donated by SI Woking To Home-Start RAW is now £.511.30. We were pleased to welcome Carole Whatnall, Manager of Home-Start Runnymede and Woking, to our dinner meeting in February 2018 to give us a presentation on the charity and receive the cheque for the proceeds of the Bridge and Afternoon Tea event from President Carolyn Edis. Our final event for this charity was a Quiz Night in Horsell Village Hall in April 2018, which raised £735, taking the total donation for the year to £1,247.

Home-Start Runnymede and Woking offers regular friendship and practical help to parents with at least one child under five. In this way, it aims to make parents feel more confident about looking after their children and so improve the children’s start in life.  One of our donors said that ‘Home-Start was a life-line for my daughter when she had twins’.
