Orange the World<\/h1>\n

Once again, this is the time of the 16 days of campaigning against the violence women suffer.<\/p>\n

Woking Council is marking the campaign like this:<\/p>\n

This year, thanks to Surrey Hills Soroptimists, Godalming Town Council, the Chamber of Trade and Waverley Council are also helping the campaign.<\/div>\n
\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n
\u00a0The Pepper Pot, a local landmark, is lit in orange for the whole 16 days, an orange flag is to fly for the whole period and the Town Council offices are to be lit orange too.\u00a0 Godalming is truly ‘Oranged”!<\/div>\n
Many Soroptimists were there, wearing orange, to see the switching-on ceremony on 26th November 2022.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Our sisters in County Durham<\/a> remind us of the reality of the violence against women. They\u00a0 have dedicated a plaque and a rose to the memory of Sarah Everard. Sarah, a former Durham student, was cruelly kidnapped and murdered by a serving Police officer in March 2021.<\/div>\n
The rose and the plaque now have their place in the quiet courtyard garden of the Women\u2019s Refuge in Bishop Auckland.<\/div>\n

Period Dignity<\/h1>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/h1>\n

Woking Soroptimists believe that it is really important to ensure period dignity for girls and women.<\/p>\n

The principle is recognised now by the World Tennis Association: women tennis players will be able to wear dark underwear now.\u00a0 Read more in this Daily Mail article.<\/a><\/p>\n

So even though the UK’s Autumn Budget reminds us there are hard times ahead – harder even than now – Woking Soroptimists will go on supporting the Binti<\/a> period dignity collection points. Our photo shows President Rozanne Rose and sister Soroptimists with their donations at Woking Library.<\/p>\n

Remembrance Sunday<\/h1>\n

President Rozanne Rose, together with members of SI Woking & Distric,\u00a0 attended the ceremony on Remembrance Sunday 2022.<\/p>\n

She laid a wreath onthe Cenotaph in Jubilee Square in memory of all those who have given their lives for our freedom.<\/p>\n
