Climate change doesn\u2019t affect everyone equally \u2014 but women and girls are leading the solutions.<\/p>\n

This World Environment Day, we\u2019re highlighting how Soroptimists in Yorkshire are creating a more sustainable future.<\/p>\n

ILKLEY: Litter picking in the Riverside Park<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

SELBY:\u00a0\u00a0On June 6th<\/sup> SI Selby partnered for the second time with Selby Womblers who are a friendly and well organised group of volunteers dedicated to the task of keeping the town and locality tidy. Their aim is to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle litter. We wore appropriate clothing and were provided with health and safety information, Hi Viz tabards and a litter picking kit comprising of pickers’ tongs, bin bags, bag hoops and gloves. We worked in pairs and covered specific areas outlined in our individual maps.\u00a0\u00a0 Over a period of 90 minutes 8 people collected 9 large bags of waste, small bags of vapes, a box of brake discs and reported 2 stray fridges. This was\u00a0 an enjoyable and rewarding collaboration despite the rain! Members intend to continue to volunteer and to further develop our relationship with this group.<\/p>\n

HALLAMSHIRE & SHEFFIELD:\u00a0 Well done to members of SI Hallamshire and SI Sheffield for their joint litter pick at Winn Gardens playground and field. About 16 bags collected in total for Environment day.<\/p>\n

SPEN VALLEY:\u00a0 Members of Spen Valley split into two groups at Crow Nest Park in Dewsbury.\u00a0 One group did a litter pick and the other group handed out sweets and cards whilst talking to people about the work of Soroptimists.<\/p>\n
