Charter Dinner

Over 60 people attended the club Charter Dinner on Saturday 17th October. Heswall members were joined by guests from Bebington, Chester, Nantwich, Northwich, Liverpool (our grandmother club), and Rhyl clubs. The photo shows Kathy, Regional President, with the President of SI Liverpool and Heswall club members.
The evening was very enjoyable and enjoyed by all with dinner followed by an entertaining talk by Tina Saunders who was dressmaker to the late Queen Elizabeth.

Go All In

The National Year of Reading 2026 is a project which the club is supporting. A number of members are involved with reading in schools, with residents at Hoylake Cottage and at Tomorrow's Women Wirral. Recently a new contact was established with Bedford Drive Primary School in Rock Ferry where the staff are keen to encourage reading both in school and at home. There is a book shed on the playground for the children's use with a sign 'the more you read the more you succeed'. Heswall members collected over 80 books and also a bookcase for the school book shed and these were delivered to the school. The donated books will be held in the reception for children to take home and also the book shed in the playground, where children can read quietly.

Wirral Foodbank

The club continues to support Wirral Foodbank through donations of cash and goods which are delivered regularly to the Foodbank centre in Birkenhead throughout the year. Richard Roberts is manager at the Foodbank and recently talked to members giving them an update on all that is being achieved in supporting local people in need of emergency help.

Emergency food is provided in response to referrals from local sources such as Wirral Council and Citizens Advice. Food parcels to last for four days are provided and are appropriate to the recipients circumstances. In 2025 over 14,000 people benefited from these packages.

In addition to the food packages further support is given to help individuals with advice to tackle the circumstances that resulted in the food emergency. This is Foodbank Plus and runs with help from Citizens Advice.

As Richard summarised ‘Wirral people helping Wirral people’.
