Welcome to S.I. Mansfield & District
We are an International Women’s movement with special consultative status at the United Nations (UN).
We are local women passionate for the environment, health, education and community development.
We are women working for women and girls!
What does the word "Soroptimist" mean?
The word means Best for Women and is derived from Latin "Soro" meaning Sister and "Optima" meaning Best
Club information
Our club belongs to the Great Britain and Ireland Federation, and is part of the Midland East Region.
Our Mansfield and District club was founded in October 1957.
Celebrating 70 years of active service and supporting women and girls locally, nationally and around the world.

When and where we meet
We enjoy meeting face-to-face on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month except for August.
All meetings take place at The Toby Carvery Watermill, Coxmoor Road, Sutton-In-Ashfield, NG17 4NE from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
We meet online (Zoom) occasionally and also keep in touch with emails and WhatsApp regularly.

*16 days of Activism-for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls.
*Helping Women's Aid
*Supporting children at Healdswood School with Literacy
*Supporting clients at Emmanuel House in Nottingham
*Litter picking on World Earth Day
*Serving teas and coffees at Forget me Not café and at Singing for The Brain
Current projects
We have several on-going projects which we are proud of. Currently we are featuring two of our projects which are linked to the environment and health & well-being.
Litter Picking
Members went out litter picking on local trails.
Each year we litter pick as a way of taking care of our environment and of supporting World Earth Day.
We use equipment provided by The Maun Valley Conservation Group.
Members follow local trails picking up approximately 10 bags of litter each time.
Baby Basics
We donated a Moses Basket full of items to Baby Basics.
Continuing Our Hope theme for The Day of Action.
A Moses basket was bought using Programme Action funds then every member donated an item. Some were items for baby and some were for mum. The complete basket was then delivered to Baby Basics Newark. Although the group is based in Newark it covers the whole of the catchment area for Kings Mill Hospital, which is our local hospital.
So far we have over 150 referrals to assist families.

We have some exciting projects and events planned. We are proud to be working in partnerships with the local organisations and our community. Raising awareness of our organisation's projects. Highlighting important messages for the Elimination of violence against women and girls, locally, nationally and internationally. Making life better for Women and Girls!

Remembrance Sunday
Members will be paying our respect at two sites, at the Mansfield Civic Centre Cenotaph and the other at the Church Warsop Memorial. We are working in partnerships with the Royal British Legion and the local council on Sunday 8th November 2026. We have participated at our local Service of Remembrance Parade and ceremony for many years.
Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI) has a dedicated site at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire where our members and Regional Presidents have attended for special services and on Remembrance Sunday.
16 Days of Activism
We will be undertaking the 16 days of Activism this year for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls. We will be at the Mansfield Town centre on Sat 28th November 2026 from 10 am to 2:00 pm outside the Four Seasons Shopping Centre with our display engaging with the public and raising awareness.
Members will be wearing ORANGE as it symbolises a future free from violence - a colour chosen for its brightness and optimism.
