Story Sacks

Bolton Soroptimists have gather supplies and built Story Sacks for a local children's group

Several members of Soroptimist International of Bolton have, over the years, volunteered at a children’s playgroup. This is based at the Hope Centre on Johnson Fold and caters for pre-school children and their parents. Each session involves a range of toys to play with, craft materials to create items on a theme and a story related to the current theme.
Soroptimists have put together several story sacks over the years, and the photographs represent the sacks provided in 2026. Each sack contains a storybook together with items referred to within the book.
There are also games relating to the story and other small fiction and non-fiction books within the sack. The props contained in the sacks prove popular with the children at story time and help them to focus and interact.
Each family attending the group has made their own small story sack. The reading material was provided by the Tots on Tuesday group together with plain sacks. Each sack was hand painted by the children/parents. The parents are encouraged to read to their children at home.
