About SI Chester
Welcome to the website of Soroptimist International (SI) Chester. Our club consists of a group of friendly, lively and energetic women from all walks of life and of all ages who work together using our various skills and talents to make a difference to the lives of others. We do this through awareness-raising, lobbying, practical help and fund-raising.
The first Chester club was formed in 1940 and ran for 60 years (see more about our history here.) Since 2012, the modern, enthusiastic group have been meeting regularly and are pleased to be chartered and an official club again.
We meet once a month at Rowton Hall, Chester and often meet socially, either for a dinner, fund raising event or just a convivial get-together to which friends and partners are also invited.
Beyond our own club, members value the global network of Soroptimist clubs giving opportunities to travel, meet like-minded women and share ideas across the world.
Although still a fairly new club we have been active in a number of project areas:
- Locally – supporting Chester Women’s Aid
- Nationally – fundraising for the Meru Women’s Garden Project and
- Internationally -we have encouraged local Charity ‘Classrooms in the Clouds’, to bid for funding from the International President’s Appeal – ‘Educate to Lead: Nepal’ and were delighted when their bid was successful.
One of our greatest success stories has been the conferment of Toilet Twinned status on the City of Chester – the first city in the UK to achieve this.
You can read about all of these projects in the project pages below.
