Club information

Our club members come from Kirkcaldy and surrounding districts, right up to the Tay and St Andrews.

Who we are

‘Programme Action’ is the name of the work that Soroptimists do. We all want to make a difference in our local community and the wider world through raising awareness of issues and giving practical help through fundraising for charities. Every year we have a conference where members gather from all over our Federation, and every four years we have a global convention, which next year is in Prague.

When and where we meet

We meet between September and April on the second and fourth Mondays in the month, usually at 7pm. However, over the winter months we have a Zoom meeting, as well as some afternoon meetings. We usually meet at the Dean Park Hotel in Kirkcaldy, but also have some alternative venues throughout the year. See the programme for details.

Club history

Our club was founded in 1953 and members continue to participate in all aspects of Soroptimism. We campaign, we lobby, we take practical action and everything is aimed at improving the lives of women and girls.

Leaders

Our current President is Patricia Davidson, and we have club officers for our project work, which is called ‘Programme Action’, as well as convenors of other committees such as Communications, Membership and Events and Syllabus. We also have a Treasurer and Secretary.

Current projects

We’re currently involved in fundraising for Guide Dogs, and we regularly volunteer to collect for Marie Curie, We also donated a large sum to jak’s Den, and have recently held a coffee morning for Macmillan and collected over £550. We campaign for women’s and girls’ safety on the railways and are involved with helping women in the justice system,
