About our club

Club History

Our Club was chartered on 10th April 1965. The club began with 28 Founder Members whose vision and commitment laid the foundations for an organisation that continues to flourish today. We honour their legacy, recognising that it is through their dedication that we are able to advance Soroptimist work locally, nationally, and internationally.

In 2015, we marked our 50th Anniversary with a lively, 1960s‑themed celebration weekend, which reflected not only our history, but the enduring friendship, fun, and shared purpose that continue to shape our club.

Programme Action: What We Do

Soroptimist International members select projects that address one of the organisation’s five key Programme Areas:

  • Economic Empowerment
  • Education
  • Environmental Sustainability
  • Food Security and Healthcare
  • Violence and Conflict Resolution

All our activities—local, national and international—support the Sustainable Development Goals, reflecting our commitment to improving the lives of women and girls worldwide. Each year, on 8th March, we celebrate International Women’s Day.

From 25th November to 10th December, we take part in the global campaign 16 Days of Action, focusing on the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls, culminating in Human Rights Day on 10th December.
