News: President’s Welcome

S.I. Burnley club members Ivy Crossley and Helen Warland-King joining in the fun!

The new president of SI Burnley, Kathleen Howarth asked club members who had enjoyed horse riding in their lives to come to her President’s Welcome in their Jodhpurs and riding gear.   She intends supporting Riding for the Disabled as her special project this year and had invited volunteers from the Dyneley based  RDA to come along to talk to the club members.  After explaining how the branch came about with the support of Lady Mary Towneley, Karen Brennand of RDA outlined the local facilities and demonstrated the specialist equipment which allows young disabled children to enjoy horse-riding safely.

The Soroptimists were able to try out a specially adapted saddle which gives extra support and after thanking the young ladies from RDA for their informative presentation, everyone tucked into a buffet supper provided by the president and some of her club sisters.  It is hoped that later this year, an event can be organised to raise much needed funds for the group.
