Soroptimist International - South Kolkata

Soroptimist International of South Kolkata is part of a worldwide organisation of women, which is linked to the United Nations.

Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement across 5 Federations, working to improve the lives of women and girls: SI Americas, SI Europe, SI Great Britain & Ireland, SI South East Asia Pacific and SI of Africa.

Soroptimist International of Great Britain & Ireland (SIGBI) has 6000 members in 270 clubs across 18 countries in Great Britain, Ireland, The Caribbean, Malta and 5 countries in the Indian Sub-continent in Asia: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. In India today we are 19 clubs strong.

Soroptimist International has Consultative Status at the UN with representatives at New York, Geneva, Paris, Vienna, Rome, Nairobi and the latest addition, a regional centre at Bangkok. SIGBI has special status at the UN with the mandate for working for the upliftment of women and girls.

Soromptimist International of South Kolkata - SISK Charter - 21st September 2006

Soroptimist International of South Kolkata was chartered on 21st September 2006, World Peace Day with 19 members by the then SIGBI President Ann Dawson. The force behind the founding of SISK is Laxmi Parasuram, then a member of SI Calcutta, our mother club. At the Charter ceremony, we had with us from SIGBI Jackie Mosedale, Extension Officer, Georgie Larsen, Friendship Coordinator and Tony Filedt Kok, President of SI Netherlands, Anne Spence & Penny of SI Kettering, NASI President Kamla Prasad, Secretary Shreelata Narayan & Treasurer Jessica Elis. It was indeed a very proud moment for SISK Charter President, Bijli Mallick and Charter Secretary, Bhaswati Biswas, and each and every SISK charter member.​​
