Soroptimist International of Sheffield was chartered 90 years ago when a group of professional women, with drive, ambition and energy set up as a group to offer service, raise money and help others in need. Although we live in a much changed world, this is what we still do today. We work hard, but enjoy fun and friendship whilst doing so, and gain great satisfaction from knowing we make a valued contribution in our local community, and also nationally and internationally. Service is an important element of our work, and the essence is to spread friendship and happiness through helping others, looking after vulnerable people and assisting members in need through our Programme Action.
We continue to support our two local ‘Refuges’, the Snowdrop Project for victims of trafficking, links with the Purple Teardrop Funding and a local food bank.
This year it is the aim of the Club and Region to raise awareness of Soroptimism and to underline the fact that we are members of a global organisation. Each Autumn members of S.I.Sheffield attend the Annual Conference, where they meet up with members from all over the world, and forge friendships and links. We have established friendship links in Wales, Denmark, Strasbourg, Uganda and Karachi for whom we hold an annual Eid Party to raise funds for their ‘Learn to Earn’ project.
We meet twice a month throughout the year. Our Business Meeting is on the first Monday of the month, and a Supper with a speaker Meeting is on the third Tuesday of the month. Prospective members are invited to come to any of these. We would be delighted to hear from you.
