Local focus

Our connections with the different towns and cities around our area.

We cover a diverse area…

Having started just over 50 years ago as Gosport, Fareham and District, we have come a long way and adopted a wider remit.  We acknowledged this when we rebranded in 2018 as SI Solent East.  (It was also easier to find on the website!). But it does extend our reach, so here’s what we’re doing or our connection with each of the following places.

Local places and our connections with them.

As you would expect we have quite a few members living in the town: Clo, Pam, Wendie, Rosemary C, Tracy, Margaret and Christine.

Rosalinda is a proud resident of Portsmouth and reminds us that we need to raise our profile there.  We have attended the Orange the World celebrations at the Spinnaker Tower on a number of occasions.

Club member Maureen lives in Alverstoke, but we do less in the town than previously. We have connections with Bay House school, for testing such as Loves Me, Loves Me Not bookmarks on their target audience.

Audrey lives in the centre of Portchester and often suggests events or donation activities there.

We have a number of club members there: Ann, Alison and Sandra. We use the Wheelhouse at Hillhead for our Re-Engage tea party, and donate items for recycling at Lee-on-the-Solent.

Club members Pauline and Jacky live in and around Chichester.  We support the local My Sisters’ House that is based there.  We are mindful of holding events towards the east of our area to save them always travelling.

None of our members live in Havant, but it would be a useful central location to hold events.

Carolyne lives in Boarhunt neat Wickham, and is a parish councillor so keeps us in touch with local news.

Rosemary B is active in her village of Denmead and watches for news to the north of our area.

There was a club in Southampton, which was our mother club, but unfortunately it has now closed.  We don’t currently have any connections there, but would welcome any new members from the city.

It has been some years since there was a club on the Isle of Wight, and we remain the nearest club for any islanders. It would be great to start another club there, but without someone resident, it is quite a logistic challenge.
