We welcome interest from women who wish to make a difference to the lives of women and girls. Each and every one of our current 38 members brings their unique knowledge, skills and experience to our Club all of which is valued.

Our club members work together to meet our aims, objectives and projects whilst each having a voice to share views and new ideas.

We foster sisterly support to each other and enjoy a varied social programme.

We aim to be forward thinking, keep current and embrace technology to aid our endeavours.

Who we are – our Club and the bigger picture

Our Club is based in St Austell, Cornwall. We are a long established club having been chartered in 1978 and are already getting excited about celebrating our 50th anniversary in 2028. We are a busy Club and our history of projects achievements and social events can be viewed on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SoroptimistInternationalStAustellAndDistrict/ Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement working together to transform the lives of women and girls with nearly 80,000 Members in 113 countries. Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI) has 5000 Members in 250 Clubs in 20 countries in Great Britain, Ireland and countries in Asia, the Caribbean and Malta, who work at a local, national and international level to educate, empower and enable opportunities for women and girls. What does Soroptimist mean? The name Soroptimist was coined from the Latin soror meaning sister, and optima meaning best. Soroptimist is perhaps best interpreted as ‘the best for women’. From the founding of the first Soroptimist club in Oakland, California, in 1921, through to the present day where over 3000 Clubs are flourishing throughout the world, Soroptimists have continued to strive to achieve ‘the best for women’ in every sphere of their lives.
