President’s Message

 

President Carwen

I follow a long line of experienced and excellent presidents at SI Carmarthen.  Therefore I look forward to the exciting challenge of taking on the role of club president.

My theme for the year is friendship and support.  This theme may be interpreted in many ways:

  • Friendship and support amongst us as a club, as like minded women with a social conscience its important to support each other in our work by ensuring we offer each other the hand of friendship at all times.
  • Friendship and support at a regional level, so that we continue to influence and make a difference to women and girls on a national and international basis.
  • Support and possibly friendship to all that we come across in our programme action work both at a club, regional and national level.

This year once again our club is heavily involved in programme action.  This can be seen in the programmes which we support in Africa and those locally such as Carmarthen Women’s Aid and the elderly.  We continue to support our friendship club in Nigeria in the education of three young girls.

My named charities for the year are Carmarthen Women’s Aid and we hope to raise funds for this initially through our Glamour and Glitz Ladies Evening held at the National Botanic Garden of Wales at Llanarthney in May.  The second is The Carmarthenshire Children’s Centre to be located at West Wales General Hospital, Carmarthen.  This will support and develop services for children with serious and long term illnesses.  The centre will host a multi disciplinary team providing on going care and therapies for children and young people with medical and disabling conditions.

We welcome those who are like minded to find out about Soroptimists by attending our meetings with the potential of becoming new members.

A president can only be as good as the club she leads.  Whatever personal attributes we have individually, however dynamic, enthusiastic and well motivated we are singularly, as a group we are stronger.  Therefore my aim is for you all to enjoy this forthcoming year of programme events, have fun and enjoy our friendship as Soroptimists by working hard towards our programme actions and programme events.
