President’s message

The Soroptimist Club of Dublin was chartered in 1938 by the Belfast Club, thus becoming the second Club in Ireland. At the time of the Charter Dinner in 1939 there were 24 members.

I am honoured to be SI Dublin Club President for 2013/14.  The Vision of Soroptimist International is a vibrant, dynamic organisation for today’s professional and business women. We are committed to a world where women and girls together achieve their individual and collective potential, realise aspirations and have an equal voice in creating strong and peaceful communities worldwide.

SIGBI Federation President Pat Black’s theme for all Soroptimists for this year is ““From Vision to Action, Soroptimists Educating to Lead”.  Firstly, educate yourself, and secondly help to educate one million women and girls this year. We still have the opportunity so why not turn our Soroptimist Vision into Action through education.

National President Anne O’Driscoll’s theme for 2012/13 is Educate through Friendship. The aim of Education is to attain knowledge, with knowledge we can help ourselves. Education is the key to success. Without Education we cannot go far. Our Mission is that we inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women and girls through a global network of members and international partnerships.

I uphold the Soroptimist values of

  • Human Rights for all
  • Global peace and international goodwill
  • Advancing women’s potential
  • Integrity and democratic decision making
  • volunteering, diversity and friendship

and I will continue to lead the Club in achieving our goals

  • Soroptimist International will improve the lives and status of women and girls through education, empowerment or enabling opportunities.
  • Soroptimist International will be a global voice for increasing access to education and leadership for women and girls.

Mahatma Gandhi said “You may never know what results may come out of your action, but if you do nothing, there will be no results”.
