President’s message

Welcome to Soroptimist International Gosport, Fareham and District (SIGF&D). If you are looking to make a difference to the lives of others we may be the organisation that can offer you just that.

The focus of Soroptimist International is to improve the lives of women and girls. SIGF&D have fulfilled this in a number of different ways. For example, recently, we have raised funds for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Southampton General Hospital, Macmillan Cancer Support, the Alzheimers Society and the Gosport and Fareham Inland Rescue Service. Some of our members support women’s refuges and others provide contact events for the elderly. Many of our fund raising activities are also social events, for example, we hold an annual BBQ, we have also arranged quiz nights, a cruise on the Solent, a wine tasting, as well as inter-club events.

We also support national and international projects. For example, for the last four years, in a partnership between Soroptimist International and Hope and Homes for Children, we have been involved in ‘Project SIerra’ which aims to raise over £1million to transform the lives of some of the most deprived women and children in the world. We have also actively raised funds for LifeStraws for use in parts of the world that do not have access to safe drinking water. See our ‘Projects’ page for more information.

We meet twice a month on Thursday evenings for a business meeting and a supper meeting where we normally have speakers who cover a wide range of topics. Soroptimist International is a great way to make friends, make a difference and have fun.
