President’s message

Welcome to SI Lewisham and South East London Club.

I am a very  new member of Soroptimist International, having  joined in June 2010. I heard about the organisation from a friend and wanted to be a part of it and learnt a great deal from looking at the Soroptimist International GBI website. The key to the organisation seems to me to be what they refer to as Programme Action. That’s where the hard work is and that’s where you can make a difference. I was privileged to be taken to regional programme action meetings, so I got a good overview of the priorities and focus of the national organisation and local clubs.

As President, my chosen charity for the year is Eaves. We had a talk from a Detective working with the Lewisham Saphire Unit who told us about the work that Eaves does in supporting women who have been subjected to domestic violence. sexually abused or trafficked and I wanted to support a local charity -Eaves seemed a good choice. If we have money left over we hope to support a young woman from a local school going into higher education with a grant to buy equipment or materials.

We are a small but very friendly group. There’s a wide range of ages and interests amongst us and most have been Soroptimists for many years. We are always looking for new members and invite you to join us. You will be made to feel very welcome.
