SI Halifax from Yorkshire and SI Deventer from Holland have shared a deep and loyal friendship link for many years and exchanged visits on numerous occasions. In October 2013 it was the turn of SI Deventer to come and five members came to Halifax to help SI Halifax celebrate the club’s 85th Anniversary. A Friendship Dinner was held on the Friday evening with lots of the club members present to welcome their guests and share Programme Action ideas and reflections from the club, the Yorkshire region and nationally.
For two days the Deventer club members enjoyed the beautiful hills and valleys of the local countryside as well as visiting Bankfield Museum and the historic Shibden Hall. A musical recital showcasing young talented pianists together with items sung by a local group of singers was held at the home of one of the members followed by a splendid afternoon tea.
On the last evening a lavish supper prepared by club members was held at the home of a former Club President where the Deventer Club presented SI Halifax with a donation towards their charity of the year, ‘The Women’s Centre’ in Halifax. Sadly it was back to Leeds Bradford airport the following morning after a truly memorable weekend held in the true spirit of Soroptimism.
