Community Development

We believe strong communities are built by people who show up. Our members partner with schools, hospitals and local charities, and give their time and skills to the causes that matter on their own doorstep. Join us, and become part of that community

Good citizenship begins with awareness, responsibility and participation — values at the heart of SIGBI’s work. When women understand their rights, contribute to local decision‑making, and act with integrity and respect, they strengthen the social fabric of their communities. SIGBI clubs help nurture this by promoting education, leadership, and informed engagement, encouraging women and girls to become active, confident contributors to civic life.

Community development flourishes when people work together to address shared needs. SIGBI projects — from health camps and literacy programmes to environmental initiatives — create spaces where members, partners and beneficiaries collaborate to improve local wellbeing. These activities build trust, strengthen networks, and empower communities to identify solutions that are sustainable and inclusive.

Ultimately, SIGBI’s approach to good citizenship and community development is rooted in service and collective action. By supporting women to lead initiatives, advocate for fairness, and uplift those facing disadvantage, SIGBI helps create communities that are more resilient, equitable and connected. This commitment ensures that development is not only practical, but also grounded in dignity, compassion and long‑term empowerment.

Read and Recycle

In India, newspapers and magazines are a part of daily life in most households. However, once read, they often pile up as waste and are carelessly discarded. To address this, SIBC launched a newspaper recycling drive at Chembur English High School. Students collected old newspapers and magazines from their homes, which were then responsibly handed over to a recycling agency. Through this initiative, waste was transformed into a resource supporting both sustainability and the funding of student-led projects.

The creativity, care and effort that went into each piece was truly inspiring… We are only able to do what we do thanks to the continued support of people like you
