The Advancement of Education

We believe an educated girl can change her own future — and her community's. Our members fund scholarships, run literacy programmes and help build schools for women and girls who would otherwise be left behind.

Education is one of the most powerful tools for change, and Soroptimists have long championed opportunities that help women and girls learn, grow and thrive. Across our Federation, members support projects that open doors to learning — whether through formal study, skills training, mentoring, or community-based initiatives. Our aim is to help women and girls gain the confidence and knowledge they need to shape their own futures.

We know that education is not just about classrooms or qualifications. It’s about creating chances for women and girls to discover their potential, strengthen their independence, and build better lives for themselves and their families. That’s why Soroptimists focus on practical, meaningful support: from providing resources and equipment, to funding training, to raising awareness of the barriers many women still face.

Every project contributes to a wider impact. By listening to local needs and responding with targeted action, Soroptimists help ensure that education is accessible, relevant and empowering. When women and girls have the opportunity to learn, entire communities benefit — and that’s the change we work for every day.

Education project examples

STEMSTAR prize giving – Weybridge Club

Our aim was to highlight British Science Week, to motivate students to take part in the events and national poster competition. We sought to reward girls and to widen knowledge of women’s impact in a mixed school.

PANKH Project – Bombay Chembur Club

The core of Project PANKH lies in its commitment to enhancing literacy and education quality through interactive learning modules, remedial education support, and skill workshops towards a more inclusive and equitable education for all.

Green Print – San Fernando Club, Trinidad

Our Club transformed the Biology Laboratory at St. Joseph’s Convent, San Fernando into a modern STEM learning environment for approximately 700 girls annually. Biology is compulsory for all students, modernising the lab would benefit every girl attending the school.

This laboratory has changed the way our girls will experience science, providing innovative technology and hands-on learning that inspire curiosity, build confidence and prepare them for future opportunities in STEM.
