Education
We believe an educated girl can change her own future — and her community’s. Our members fund scholarships, run literacy programmes and help build schools for women and girls who would otherwise be left behind.
A global community of women creating lasting change for women and girls
As a charity and volunteering organisation, our members are committed to creating real, lasting change for women and girls. Every project, partnership, and advocacy effort is driven by a belief in a fairer, safer, more hopeful world — turning concern into action and challenges into opportunities.
Across our Federation, this commitment reaches far beyond local communities. From education and human rights to tackling gender‑based violence and expanding opportunities, our impact stretches across borders and into the lives of women and girls who need support most.
The number of projects undertaken in the last 12 months, women helped and funds raised is impressive!

The Benevolent Fund was established in 1939 to provide financial support to Soroptimists living in the UK and Republic of Ireland facing hardship due to ill health, misfortune, or advancing age. The concept developed into a formal Relief Fund, and in 1942 it was incorporated into the Federation Constitution. The Fund is supported by an annual levy from members across the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, and the Republic of Ireland.
The Diamond Education Grant, founded by SIGBI in 1972, provides financial support to women seeking education that will strengthen their employment prospects. By funding course fees or essential equipment, the grant helps women gain new skills, return to work, or move into emerging industries. Its purpose is to widen access to education for women who face financial or personal barriers, creating positive change for individuals, families, and communities across the SIGBI Federation.
The Emergency Relief Fund was set up to grant aid for the relief of acute suffering caused by disasters. Soroptimist members, clubs, national associations, regions and networks are invited to contribute to the fund and they may also request that aid be given for specified emergencies.
