Sewing Sisters

Our sewing sisters group has used recycled pillowcases into dresses for the girls in the orphanage in Hoima, Uganda. We also made shorts for the boys. We made birthing sheets for the midwifery unit and knitted hats and vests for the newborns.

Sewing Sisters

A small group of members meet at a member's home to make a variety of items from donated fabrics, threads etc. where there is an identified need. Giving of their time and skills in sewing and pressing, they also have a bring and share lunch to finish the session.

This group giving their time and sewing skills have made over 40 Welcome Bags for the local Women’s Refuge from donated fabrics. These are delivered as needed to the Refuge and contain essential supplies such as toiletries, a notebook, pens and a treat of chocolate. These are greatly appreciated by the women and they say it is such a lovely thing to find waiting in the room.

Our latest project is making drain bags using donated fabrics for women undergoing a mastectomy. These are delivered to a local hospital.
