Whitstable Repair Cafe
Whitstable Repair Cafe in its current guise was launched in November 2025, after a five year gap, when the previous Repair Cafe closed due to Covid 19. The Repair Cafe takes place on the first Saturday of the month (except August and December), 10.00 am to 12.30 pm, at St Alphege Church, High Street, Whitstable. A team from Whitstable and District Soroptimist Club planned and organised the new Repair Cafe and recruited a team of local volunteers with repair skills, covering household, garden, clothes, electricals, toys, jewellery, ceramics, kitchen knife sharpening, bicycles and just recently added lock smithing to the impressive range of repairs! In its first year Whitstable Repair Cafe has completed over 200 repairs and had to move to bigger premises, to meet demand. Over 70% of customers are women, most of whom are in an older age group. Repair Cafes are so much more than just repairing things, although that is very important environmentally. Repair Cafes are also about friendship, connection and well-being, economic benefit and sustainable communities.
