2011 President’s message

My name is Veronica Prowse and I am very proud to be President of the Torquay and District Soroptimist Club especially as this year is the 70th Anniversary of our club.

For our 70th we have arranged some events to celebrate.

The Torquay and District Soroptimist Club are also intending to erect a permanent plaque at Old Maids Perch in Torquay, to celebrate the 70 years of Soroptimism in this area.

Over the years we have raised significant amounts of money for various charities both locally and abroad while at the same time we have undertaken local service projects. We will I am sure continue this year to follow in the footsteps of the past providing yet more money for charities, one of which will be Devon in Sight and continuing our service projects which at the present time are listening to children read, taking the elderly out for tea and managing Rosegarth, a house with flats for ladies.

I hope this year members will make the year special by contributing suggestions and constructive criticism to improve not only the quality of our meetings but the social and fund raising events we hold, so that we continue to enjoy friendship and fun at the same time as we maintain Soroptimist values.
