2016 Norman McNamara and the Purple Angel Dementia Campaign

purple angel logoAs promised on 8th October here is a little more enlightenment concerning this lovely man and his amazing campaign. Norman suffers with Lewy Body Dementia and I mean suffers. When we met him he was leading the meeting, full of laughter and enthusiasm. But read his blog, he gives the stark truth of his life and it’s heart breaking. He shares his experiences to give us all a better understanding of Dementia. There are several forms of this disease but all cause degeneration of brain cells. This in turn leads to crippling emotional and mental disruption and there is no cure.

Norman launched the Purple Angel Dementia Campaign in Torquay to spread the word and to give hope and empowerment to those with this awful disease. There are approximately 850,000 people in the UK coping somehow. Thanks to Norman there are now Dementia Friendly Communities and Memory Cafés across the UK and across the World. The Purple Angel Logo has been adopted to show understanding and support. Those with dementia deserve our respect.

I recommend the website –  www.purpleangel-global.com/

We are planning for Norman McNamara  to give a talk to our members on becoming Purple Angel Ambassadors early in the New Year – hoping to create a better world for people suffering from dementia.

Members of the Torquay & District SI have volunteered to help at the World Rocks Against Dementia at Hannahs at Seale Hayne on 18th March 2017.
