President’s message

Team work

“No man is an island entire of himself
Each one is a part of the whole
A piece of the main
Any man’s death diminishes me
For I am a part of mankind…”

These parts of the poem have been with me since schooldays

I had learnt it as a “spell” during my Sixth form years for a dear eccentric teacher who came to the school once a week. For me this poem encompasses Soroptimism ideals. We are not individual members of separate clubs, we are part of the whole International Organisation and every single person matters to that Organisation and to its leaders.

As we approach 2012 and the London Olympics, where teamwork will be emphasised in every shape and form that we can possibly think of, I cannot fail to ask you to think of yourselves as members of the team that is Soroptimist International.

President Pat during her year in office has likened clubs to pieces of paving slabs all fitting together side by side to make a firm foundation. I would ask you now to consider reaching out to other Soroptimists not only in this Region or this Federation but across the world like the concrete between the slabs and join together with them in promoting our ideals and mission.

As members of Midland Chase I ask you to make this coming Regional year a strong time for team work across the Region, to make a link with a club you do not know well and to share your good news and problems or concerns with them.
