President’s message

President Alison

I have been a Soroptimist for 13 years and have served the club in different roles and am very honoured to be Club President in 2011/12. The Aberdeen Club was chartered in 1929 and has a long history of service and fund-raising, both locally and for national and international projects. Currently we have more than 40 members who have diverse skills and come from a variety of occupations.

During this year we have changed the way we work which has seen us putting much effort into fund raising for a major national charity operating locally. Alzheimer Scotland was chosen by club members to receive funding from various events we are organising during the year and this is proving very rewarding for all.

My year as President started in April 2011 and the first fund-raising event was a very successful Summer Soiree which raised £500 for NESS (North East Sensory Services). It was a great evening of music and poetry.

In our Programme Action activities we endeavour to make a difference to the lives of women and girls across the world by campaigning, lobbying government departments and highlighting issues affecting women and families. We also do voluntary service work for several local organisations.

Please do consider joining us, you will be made very welcome.

Alison Mitchell
