Neat Feet Happy Hands

The region’s project for 2015 – 2017 was Neat Feet Happy Hands.

Promoted by the Great Yarmouth club, this project tackled the problem of the jigger parasite – female sand fleas that burrow their way under skin – which is widespread in East Africa.  It is extremely painful and in particular effects children who walk barefoot through the bush.  They are unable to go to school when they have jigger.

In fact there is a relatively simple cure that involves using potassium permanganate and vaseline.  For less than £1 per person treated it is extremely effective and enables the children to get back to school quickly.

With our 10 Clubs working together to raise funds we were able to treat thousands of people over a 2 year period.
