UN Day of Elimination of Violence Against Women – 25th November -16 Days of Activism

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender based Violence takes place between 25 November and 10 December each year. The theme for 2021 is “Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!”
As the world retreated inside homes due to the lockdown measures introduced to curb the COVID-19 pandemic, reports showed an alarming increase in the already existing pandemic of violence against women across the world.
This includes Domestic Abuse, Rape, Female Genital Mutilation, Trafficking, Child Brides, and much more, with Poverty at the root of some of these major issues.
On our Club Facebook Pages we have been adding Posts during the build up and each day.  Go to: Soroptimist International of Ipswich to see more.
Soroptimist International (SI) and SIGBI both have consultative status at the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at the United Nations (UN), which gives us a voice on important discussion papers, and allows us to attend the Commission on the Status of Women in New York each March, and contribute to the “Agreed Conclusions”. This status would not be possible without the fantastic work being done by our Members.
