What does “Soroptimist” mean?

The name is made up from two Latin words and can be translated as “the best of sisters”

Who can join a Soroptimist Club?

Soroptimism is open to any woman with a social conscience who wants to help to educate, empower and enable women and girls to improve their lives

What does it cost?

SI Derby’s annual subscription is £85. This can be paid in 12 monthly instalments of £7.10 – an equivalent to a cup of coffee’s out each month.

How often do you meet?

We have regular business meetings once a month, often with a speaker.  We also have a programme of social activities throughout the year. The business meetings start at 7pm and generally last a couple of hours.

Are there any other time commitments?

If you want to help run the club by joining a committee you may be asked to commit another evening every four to six weeks. You may also wish to help out at events.

Do you have any social occasions?

Yes, Soroptimists are well known for enjoying eating and drinking! Sometimes these occasions are also fundraising events
