Regional Meeting and Celebration of Human Rights Day, Mayflower Place, Hertingfordbury
SI Hertford & District had the honour of hosting this meeting and a good number of us turned out to help.
Celebration of Human Rights Day 2015 Regional President Pam (SI Hertford & District) read from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights signed on 10 December 1948 and lit a candle to remember those in the world who are still denied their human rights. Pam then read the poignant poem We Refugees by Benjamin Zephaniah.
President of SI Hertford & District Sarah Newstead read an extract from an article in the Telegraph about women in Ghana called “Queen Mothers” and lit a candle to celebrate the work of women across the world.
Regional President Elect Jen Simpson of SI High Wycombe & District read an article from the December edition of Soroptimist News by Pam Allinson, SIGBI APD Education and lit a candle to celebrate the work of Soroptimists across SIGBI federation.
Kate Belinis a new member of SI Hertford read a letter from their link Club in Turkey and lit a candle to celebrate the work of Soroptimists across the world.
Members then stood while Immediate Past Federation President Jenny read the Vision and Mission of Soroptimist International.
President Pam thanked everyone for their donations to the International President’s 10 December Appeal for Women and Girls in Nepal.
The meeting then went on to hear from Speaker – Jan Dalrymple from Safer Place (Women’s Refuge). President Pam reminded us that the theme for her year is A Better Tomorrow for Women Today and this is a very apt description of the work done by our speaker Jan Dalrymple CEO of Safer Places.

Regional President Pam announced that it will be SI Hertford’s 60th Charter Anniversary in 2016 and the Club is holding an event at Mayflower Place on 30 April, to which members from the region are cordially invited.
