Members at SI Heswall’s International dinner on Thursday learned about the history of the Karigari crafts project in India and their plans to help women become self employed. We also heard how the money raised at our Karigari jewellery stall at the Liverpool Conference will be used. Over £800 was raised and is being used to fund 4 girls for 2 years of secondary schooling. This includes personal hygiene kits, book etc too.
At November’s speaker meeting President Maureen presented Brenda Elphick with her Long Service Award recognising her 35 years as a member of Heswall Soroptimists. She thanked Brenda for her service to the Club and to the community – locally, nationally and internationally. Brenda has held several roles in the Club and been a keen supporter of all Club activities. In response Brenda thanked members for their friendship, kindness, generosity and all the fun shared during the past 35 years.

Members of SI Heswall had a productive day on Saturday, at Heswall Farmers’ Market. This photo shows joint chair of Membership Cynthia Duggan and Jean Bacon with their colourful and informative stall. This event enabled some of our members to meet the public, showcase the work we do, encourage new members and raise the profile of Soroptimists. Thanks to Jill Andrew for the super information boards.
Members of SI Heswall joined over 1,000 Soroptimists at the SIGBI conference in Liverpool. The three day event offered a full programme to suit everyone. Two of our members, Jill and Maureen, spoke to the conference about Heswall’s PA project -Tomorrow’s Women Wirral – which was very well received. Congratulations Jill and Maureen!
