Soroptimist International of Cirencester & District has recently celebrated its 75th anniversary, having been
chartered in 1948
The club has been carrying out a number of projects in the last year, including an Anti-Spiking Campaign at the Phoenix Festival, highlighting the dangers of spiking, a seminar at the Bingham Hall called “Hiding in Plain Sight” about Modern Day Slavery and Human Trafficking, where over 90 people from local charities, councillors and fellow Soroptimists from over the rest of the country heard about this issue, how to spot it in your local area and the extent of the problem. An awareness of the issues raised will be shared; this will help many other people over the coming years to look out for signs of slavery and trafficking. We have been helping to “Orange the World” by being part of the United Nations initiative to eradicate violence towards women and girls world wide. We have been meeting at many local cafes wearing orange clothes and scarves and having table top displays to highlight the issue.
