16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence
16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign which starts on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.
Around the world it calls for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
The colour orange is used to symbolise 16 days of action activities, often we will light up buildings and landmarks. This year considering the energy crisis we have chosen to decorate this window in Cockermouth orange.
In support of this campaign Soroptimist International of Cockermouth and District have chosen to highlight statues and arts of work around the world that have become symbols of the campaign to end gender-based violence. We will be posting a statue a day on out Facebook page cockermouthsoroptimists.
If you are in Cockermouth please come and look at our window.
We have found some fascinating statues – do you know about the World War II Comfort Women. Please take a look at our presentation to find out more!
