WINNER of Economic Empowerment is SI Western Jamaica for their Soroptimist Wee Care Basic School.
Soroptimists from SI Western Jamaica have over the past 30 years provided childcare facilities to support working mothers. The facility has adapted over time to the needs of the community and is now solely a School, with committed teachers and advanced training with Government the School has consistently high standards.
Also nominated were SI Ashton under Lyne and SI Port St. Louis.
WINNER of Learning Opportunities is SI Lichfield for their Sewing Bee
Members of SI Lichfield formed a “Sewing Bee” group and meet in a member’s house once or twice a month to make dresses. 30 dresses have so far been shipped out to an orphanage in Kenya and 100 dresses and 50 teddies went off to an orphanage in Burkina Faso. The dresses have been gratefully received by the girls. In doing this project members have also educated themselves, learned new skills and reinforced old ones.
Also nominated were SI Bombay Chember and SI Enugu Coal City.
WINNER of Environmental Sustainability is SI Downpatrick and District for their Climate Change Leaflet
SI Downpatrick produced a leaflet to raise public awareness about the impacts of Climate Change and how we may address this challenge both on a local and global scale. Leaflets were distributed to the local council, all local schools, libraries and community centres.
Also nominated were SI Rhyl and SI Pune Metro East.
