The Soroptimist International Club of Heswall & District has plenty to celebrate after new Presidents Cynthia Duggan and Jenny Wilson were elected at their recent virtual AGM for 2021. The club is also celebrating an exciting new venue for their meetings with a return to Heswall at Heswall Hall. The new Presidents are looking forward to resuming their twice monthly meetings as soon as Government guidelines allow. Their chosen charities this year are Tomorrow’s Women Wirral (tomorrowswomen.org.uk), a centre looking after the welfare of women, Parkinson’s UK (www.parkinsons.org.uk) and Health Help International (hhi.org.uk), an organisation providing medical equipment in Zambia and India.
With our return to Heswall, it brings to mind our inaugural meeting held in November 1948 at the Spinning Wheel Café, 78 Telegraph Road. Proprietor, Mrs Astin, was elected founder member and the annual subscription was 2 guineas. The Insignia was designed around the Spinning Wheel at a cost £50 to produce.
