To celebrate 70 years the Club commissioned local author Penny Byrne to write a first for Jersey – a book solely dedicated to some of the inspiring historical women of our Island.
Thanks to sponsorship by Mourant a free creative workshop was held on Saturday 2nd October 2021 in the JCG art department. Local art students aged 14+ had the opportunity to be inspired by artist Eliza Anna Reine and art teacher Jacque Rutter to create an illustration of one of our chosen 16 inspiring local women. We were delighted to welcome twenty-two students on the day from many Island schools. All the artwork from the workshop and submitted online features in the publication.
“Inspiring Women of Jersey” was launched on Monday 2 May 2022 to coincide with the opening of the exhibition of student artwork at the Link Gallery by the Jersey Museum.
Priced at £9.99 it is available to buy at various outlets around the Island including Waterstone’s, Jersey Museum and the Jersey Archive or email soroptimistsjersey@gmail.com.
All proceeds will be shared between Brightly and Freeda, previously known as the Jersey Women’s Refuge, over £13,000 has been shared between the two charities to date.
Thanks to students from Haute Vallée, Hautlieu, Victoria College, Highlands College, Grainville and Jersey College for Girls for taking part.
