Our Friendship Weekend with S.I. Guernsey April 2025

In April SI Guernsey held a Friendship Weekend to which Kernow Soroptimists were invited. Soroptimists Jennie and Wendy arrived on Friday 25th April and were welcomed with a lovely gift bag packed with Guernsey goodies.

On the first evening, we were taken to ‘Grow’ which supports adults with learning disabilities and difficulties develop self confidence and life skills. We then met some gorgeous dogs from Paws for Thought, who showed off their amazing skills at caring for adults and children, with a wide variety of needs. Both of these charities are supported by SI Guernsey.

On the Saturday morning we had a very interesting walking tour, explaining the history of Guernsey and the events surrounding the Liberation of the Islands at the end of World War 2.  This served as a fascinating and comprehensive timeline of the German Occupation.

During the afternoon we wandered around the town of St Peter’s Port which is in one of the ten parishes on the Island. It is the capital of Bailiwick, of Guernsey and the main port. A highlight of the afternoon was meeting Victor Hugo!

That evening, we attended SI Guernsey’s Charter event, where the talented Rachel Dawson, recently returned to Guernsey from Nashville, USA started off the celebrations. What a treat!! It was a wonderful evening celebrating 45 years as a Soroptimist club in Guernsey plus the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Guernsey.

On the Sunday morning we visited Castle Cornet. The weather was gorgeous and the sea was so calm. This is a very interesting castle with a great museum and stunning grounds. We saw the Noonday gun fired too! Well worth a visit.

In the afternoon, we met up again with our friends and shared an afternoon tea at Les Cotils, a beautiful Hotel with an amazing view.  It was a lovely way to end the weekend!!

Before we left the next morning, we enjoyed a walk around the Peace Garden and then got ready for our flight back home.

A very big thank you to our SI Guernsey hosts, we had a wonderful time!.
