A message from our member Maureen Howarth
NEW BEGINNINGS
Well who would have thought after 34 years of being a member of this fantastic organisation, I would aspire to this position. Certainly not me.
It is an absolute honour and privilege to represent the North West England and the Isle of Man Region as their Regional President. The theme I have chosen is “Together We Can ….”.
A team of like-minded women can make a difference when they do it together.
We face many challenges, one of which is membership. Not only do we need to recruit new members, but we need to ensure our existing members are happy and enthused to attend meetings and participate in projects. Any ladies reading this who are not a member, and feel up to a challenge, check out your nearest club and pay them a visit. I am sure you will be greeted with a friendly reception.
2021 is a celebration for Soroptimists all over the world and something to look forward to. 100 years of service helping women and girls achieve their full potential.
Educate, Empower, and Enable – three powerful words that are close to all our hearts.
I have chosen MIND as my main charity for this year for personal reasons. MIND is a mental health charity with Stephen Fry as President. Mental health is multifaceted and until recently has taken a backseat to other better charitable organisations.
Friendship is the key to our Organisation, many of which have stood the test of time.
To conclude I will leave you with a quote from Nelson Mandela:
“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived …. it is the difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”
