Women & Engineering – Dr Nina Baker

Members of Soroptimist International Perth were delighted to welcome guests including staff & pupils from local secondary schools to hear about Women & Engineering from Dr Nina Baker, a historian specialising in construction history and the hidden stories of women in engineering.  It was emphasised that getting girls into Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM subjects) is very important.

In addition, we heard about Freedom from Fistula as we handed over knitted squares and baby clothes; Churches Action for The Homeless (CATH) and Starter Packs as we handed oved bed linen, curtains, towels and cutlery and Seema’s children’s home in India, which one of our Soroptimists had just visited.  We also heard a broad overview of the many exciting projects we as Soroptimists, are involved in and there was a distinct buzz in the room.
