We enjoyed a delicious breakfast and met friends old and new at the Hub Cafe, Christ Church, Creekmoor on a freezing cold Saturday morning , marking the start of the 16 days of Activism against gender- related abuse. . .

Do join us if you can – we are looking forward to taking an active part in this important event.
We’ve changed our name to reflect our members’ locations! We are keen to recruit women from Wimborne and Purbeck and out towards Dorchester.
The Jiant Jigsaw Jamboree was very successful – even though numbers were a bit down because the weather was very good – and particularly pleasing because the children who came really enjoyed it. We had worked hard to publicise it and to gather lots of jigsaws, accessories and prizes. Many thanks again to sponsors: Tesco Fleetsbridge, Tails From The Woods, Jigsaw Puzzle Club, Victory Puzzles, Salamander and Waitrose Wimborne. We are very happy to have raised £200 for Home Start West Dorset.
Big Help Out . Wimborne Volunteer Day It was a really wet day on Bank Holiday Monday but all the volunteers who live around Wimborne came out to tell everyone about the benefits of volunteering and belonging to a group of like-minded individuals with a shared goal. We met some lovely people who were very interested in what were doing and also some experts who could advise on our our current project! Thank you.
Soroptimist International is 100 years old this October. We are celebrating the lives and contributions of some of our members who have made a difference. One of SI Poole’s late members, Pat Sloman, has been included in the gallery of 100 Soroptimists – one for each year of the organisation. You can see more here: https://sigbi.org/soroptimistcentenary2021/a-brilliant/showcasing-one-hundred-soroptimists-for-the-centenary-100-4-100/whoisshe-soroptimists-for-the-centenary/ #Whoisshe? Many local people remember Pat – she was a journalist and television newsreader.

Poole Soroptimists had an eventful run-up to Christmas! Members delivered food parcels as part of the town’s Christmas Parcels event which supports some of the most vulnerable in our local community. We supported local charity LEAF, Leukaemia Educating And Fund-Raising, at their Christmas coffee morning. Poole Soroptimists took along their lovely full LEAF money pigs for emptying. LEAF supports local families in need of support due to a family member having leukaemia. The Broadstone Community Concert Band played an amazing Christmas concert at Wimborne Minster on 9th December. The Minster was packed and the band played a great array of Christmas music and carols. Poole Soroptimists were on hand to greet guests and give information on the Purple Teardrop Campaign, our charity that raises awareness of human trafficking, particularly into the sex industry, and raises funds that help rescued victims recover. Our sincere thanks to

Poole Coffee Morning on 22nd July raised funds for Purple Teardrop Campaign’s project that sends preloved bras to Free the Girls, a charity that supports women survivors of trafficking by setting them in business selling bras. Poole Soroptimists and friends enjoyed delicious cakes and coffee, plus added monies came from a super tombola. Supporting survivors of modern slavery is a key element of the Purple Teardrop Campaign’s work.
President Liz Rodgers and the members of SI Poole welcomed Nigel Page-Jones, Founder and CEO of SPESS, Soutien Population Education Sante Sagbadai, at their April meeting at the Salterns Hotel in Poole. Nigel spoke with great passion and enthusiasm about SPESS’s work in Togo and how over time the projects will become self-sustaining. And it was with great pleasure that Liz presented Nigel with the club’s donation in support of SPESS’s ongoing work to improve the lives of communities in Togo.
