A group of us wore orange to promote the Soroptimist campaign to raise awareness and take action to end Violence Against Women. The UNiTE campaign has proclaimed the 25th of each month as “ORANGE DAY” As a bright and optimistic colour, Orange represents a future free from violence against women and girls The United Nations Secretary General’s UNiTE, Lunched in 2008 that by 2030 there would be an End to Violence Against Women around the world.
Soroptimists enjoyed a delicious lunch at Cafe By The River at Read Garden Centre. We perused the plants for sale afterwards and purchased items to enhance our gardens this Autumn.
Great Harwood celebrated their Charter this year on Jubilee weekend with a parade and a selection of stalls along the main street. Soroptimists took part in the parade and ran a Tombola stall raising funds for Nightsafe, which provides support for young people in Blackburn and HARV, Accrington’s Domestic Abuse Team. Over 2,000 people came along and everyone enjoyed the community spirit of the town.
