President Edna and members of S I South Caernarfonshire visited Ysgol Pendalar and presented this Special Needs School with a cheque for £1200. This was 1/3 of the money raised at the “Funtastic Evening” held at Porth Tocyn Hotel in October 2014. Riding for the Disabled at Treborth and SNAP Cymru, an organisation which supports parents with special needs children, also received similar cheques. The School is going to use the money to buy outdoor play equipment for  the pupils to use. The club also helps running the  charity shop which the staff and pupils at the school organise in order to raise funds. Working in the shop helps the pupils to gain confidence in life skill tasks. These include sorting, washing and ironing  of donated clothes and the pricing of these and other goods as well as dealing with the public and handling money in the

We have just been singing in one of the local Old People’s Homes. They all seem to enjoy the carols and many of them join in. The Staff say that  the residents look forward to our visits and talk about them for some time after the event. This summer  we also  sang for  the elderly which was a great success

Members of the club and their guests recently enjoyed a “Funtasic Evening” at Porth Tocyn Hotel. About 65 people attended and the evening raised a tremendous £3658! The proceeds will be shared amongst SNAP Cymru, a group  which supports parents who have children with Special Needs, Ysgol Pendalar, a Special Needs school which enables their pupils to find a place in society and lead fulfilling lives and Riding for the Disabled. This local group makes no charge to their riders and the confidence that people of all ages get from this activity has to  be seen to be believed. Thank you all who attended , gave raffle prizes and donations and made this evening such a success.

Just to let you all know that the Sponsored Bike Ride was completed by 22 riders.  It was a super day and enjoyed by all.  Lunch at the Black Cat Cafe was needed and the Lady in charge raised another £70 for Alaw Ward by donating a cake to the winner who was Jackie Rees . 12 of the group carried on cycling to Pwllheli and some back to the Hotel.  A very good achievement indeed. At least 5  punctures occurred and were sorted en route!! The final amount is not finalised but we know we are over £2000 – a marvellous response . Thank You to everyone. Seeing lots of Sorops who were not riding but had to come to cheer us at the finish was very special – thank you for making the effort.

Members recently  helped one of the many churches in our area with a  “churchyard Clearing “. The 4  blue builder’s bags were the result of their valiant efforts. This year , for a change, the selected day was bright and sunny. Not bad for October! It made a change from having to cancel at the last minute due to gales and torrential rain.

ANDREA JOINS THE THIRD WOMEN’S CANCER CHALLENGE Caernarfon Soroptimist Andrea Roberts is getting on her bike and taking positive action in the fight against breast, ovarian and cervical cancers.Andrea, 67, is part of an amazing group of women tackling the third Women v Cancer challenge.   She will be challenging herself as part of a women-only team of cyclists riding across Cuba to support the work of three charities:  Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action.   A donation will also be made to support cancer care in Cuba. Andrea will be joining women of all ages and all cycling abilities from across the UK  in Group 5 of Cancer  Challenge between 2nd and 10th October 2014.    The group will cycle around 400kms over 5 days – both on and off road – experiencing rural Cuba away from the usual tourist trails.   It will be

As no member of SISC lives more than 7 miles from the sea, we decided to brave the elements and swim in the sea.( Well it is July and the beginning of the School Holidays!) 6 heroic, or foolhardy, members decided to bob about in the swell of the sea at Abersoch, encouraged by non-swimming members and the thought of the excellent picnic that had been provided as a reward.  For once this outdoor event was not rained off although there had been a violent thunderstorm in the early hours of the morning!   Money raised by this event will go to the Birthing In the Gambia project, which helps provide perinatal care for women and their babies in Gambia.

About 20 SISC members, together with friends and partners had an excellent evening  on their club “outing” to Pant Du Vineyard at Penygroes.  We had a guided tour of the vineyard together with a very interesting commentary  on its development over the past 6 years. This was followed by a light supper with samples of the cider, which they also produce. Most members took the opportunity to purchase and sample the Red, White and Rose from the vineyard. It was a very pleasant evening and for once we were blessed with excellent weather! (Maybe because 2 retired Vicars were present!)
