SIGBI Day of Action – ” Say No to Plastic”

On July 12th 2022, the women of Nari Chetna were told about the ill effects of plastic. When burned, the acrid smoke pollutes the air and is a major health hazard. The use of single use plastic is causing serious concern everywhere. It fills up landfills, leaches the soil, lands up in water bodies, entangling water birds and being mistaken for food by fish, birds and other animals leading to slow poisoning and also damaging human health when humans eat such fish. It clogs the local drains resulting in water logging during the rainy season.

Fabric bags were distributed for their regular shopping. In addition to this, nine members donated 675kg of dry waste for re-cycling in the urban area of Kolkata.

The project addressed SDG
